Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University student-athletes swept many of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) awards this week after turning in winning performances.
Volleyball junior Celena Rendon (San Antonio, TX/ Tom C. Clark) has been named CACC Player of the Week after averaging 4.17 kills, 3.0 digs, 0.50 blocks and 0.83 service aces per-set while posting a .360 hitting percentage in a 2-0 week. She also was named Philadelphia University Athlete of the Week as she recorded 18 kills, 13 digs, three aces and three blocks in a 3-1 triumph over Post. Rendon has a team-high 139 kills for the year as the Lady Rams (8-7, 4-1 CACC) are sitting pretty at third in the CACC south division behind Georgian Court and Holy Family.
Also earning CACC Runner/Rookie of the Week honors were cross country junior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VII) and freshman Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/ MMI Prep). D'Andrea has now won the CACC award for the fourth week straight- after winning the Goldey-Beacom Invitational outright (27:33.3) to help the men tie for first-place overall. Dei Tos earns Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this year as she finished fifth overall (20:45) in the women's 5K to lead the Lady Rams to the Goldey-Beacom Invitational championship.
Women's tennis rookie Christina Brzozowski (Wallingford, CT/ Sacred Heart Academy) earned her third Rookie of the Week honor after going 6-0 this week in both #3 singles and #2 doubles. Sophomore #2 singles Daniela Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Menor) was named CACC Honorable Mention after improving to 12-2 on the year.
