Six PhilaU Athletes Tabbed for CACC Weekly Honors
Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University had six spring student-athletes named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly honors list for their performances ending on Sunday, April 12th.
Baseball senior pitcher Kyle Noonan (Morristown, NJ/ Morristown) was named ‘Pitcher of the Week' as he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning vs. Wilmington before surrendering a hit. He threw a complete game one-hitter in the 3-0 victory while striking out four batters.
Softball freshman Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) earned her second straight ‘Rookie of the Week' honor after going 3-0 with a 1.81 ERA in four appearances. She struck out 33 on the week including 11 batters vs. Chestnut Hill. Fellow softballer junior Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) earned ‘Honorable Mention' as she hit .333 on the week including driving in seven RBIs vs. USP.
Men's tennis freshman Alex Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) earned his fourth-straight ‘Rookie of the Week' award after going 3-0 at #1 singles and 4-0 #1 doubles, and rookie teammate Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/ Holy Cross HS) earned ‘Honorable Mention' as he went 3-1 in singles- his only loss came when he played out of position at #1 singles vs. Bloomfield.
Women's lacrosse senior attack Sarah Davis (Dublin, OH/ Dublin Scioto) earned ‘Honorable Mention' as she tallied three goals and one assist in the Lady Rams only contest of the week.
