Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (8-11, 1-5 CACC) dropped a double header 3-2, 1-0 to the Caldwell College Cougars (11-7, 8-0 CACC) today at Bucky Harris Field.
In the first game, the Cougars took an early lead on a bases loaded walk surrendered by freshman right hander Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) in the top of the second. The Lady Rams responded in bottom half of the frame, scoring two runs on a throwing error and a single by junior outfielder Kristin Lougherty (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville).
The Cougars retook the lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs on a couple of hits and a walk. PhilaU threatened several times during the remainder of the game, but solid pitching and defense helped Caldwell prevail. Caldwell took game one 3-2.
The Lady Rams were led by Kristin Lougherty and Ali Schmidt. Lougherty went 2-for-3 from the plate and drove in a run. Schmidt threw a complete game and surrendered five hits and gave up three earned runs.
The second game started out slow, with neither team scoring a run in the first four innings of play. Caldwell finally broke the tie in the top of the 5th, playing small ball after a lead off double and eventually bringing in the first run of the game, taking a 1-0 lead. The lead would stand for the Cougars as PhilaU could not generate any offense.
The next game for the Lady Rams is March 31st against Wilmington University. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
