PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University department of athletics raised $1,500 during the 2015-16 academic year for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), which the department gave to ALSF on Wednesday.
Starting with the Alex's Million Mile campaign on Sept. 1, 2015, the department and its student athletes collected donations at home soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball, softball, and lacrosse events. The cheerleading squad participated in The Lemon Run, a 5K run/walk and kids dash that took place on Nov. 8 in Fairmount Park.
The donations will assist ALSF in the fight against pediatric cancer.
To date, the funds raised by ALSF and its supporters have surpassed $100 million dollars, which has helped fund more than 500 cutting-edge research projects; create a travel program to help support families of children receiving treatment; and develop resources to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.
