Women's Rowing Varsity Eight Places Fourth at NCAA Division II Championships
The Philadelphia University's women's varsity eight crew team placed fourth at the NCAA Division II Championships on Sunday, June 1st in Sacramento, Calif. It was the first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships for Head Coach Chris O'Brien's rowing program, which is in just the second year of its existence at the University. Top-ranked Western Washington took first for the fourth consecutive year, followed by UC-San Diego in second place, Dowling College in third and the Lady Rams in fourth. For O'Brien and his team, the success in 2007-08 continues a meteoric rise through the Division II ranks in two short seasons and culminated with an outstanding performance in Sacramento. The Lady Rams earned a spot in the Grand Final on Saturday, May 31st, when they finished second to earn a spot in the Championship race.

Women's Rowing Varsity 8 Earns First-Ever NCAA Tournament Bid
Head Coach Chris O'Brien and his Philadelphia University women's rowing team earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in an announcement made on Tuesday, May 20th. O'Brien's varsity 8 was one of six crews invited to the championship, which will begin on May 30th in Sacramento, Calif.

Farbman Receives Rookie of the Week Accolades From Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
Freshman right-hander Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, Pa./Central HS; pictured) has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for games played from May 5-11, 2008. It marks the first CACC weekly award for the talented newcomer, who finished his first collegiate campaign with a sparkling 6-0 record, one save, an ERA of 2.89, 54 strikeouts (vs. just 29 bases-on-balls), and a league-leading three shutouts.

Rams and Lady Rams Tennis Teams Selected to NCAA Division II Championship Tournaments
Head Coach Marty Gilbert's men's and women's programs both have been selected to compete in upcoming NCAA Division II Tennis Championships. This is an historic occasion for the men, as it marks their first time representing Philadelphia University in the NCAA postseason.

Allison Kessler Named East Coast Conference/Baden Co-Player of the Week for April 21-27, 2008
Senior midfielder Allison Kessler (Burtonsville, Md./Springbrook; pictured) has been tabbed by the East Coast Conference as Baden Co-Player of the Week for games played between April 21-27, 2008. Kessler notched 14 points (8g, 6a) and eight draw controls in a 3-0 week for the Lady Rams. She scored the game-winner in a 24-12 win at Chestnut Hill last Wednesday.

Michele Petruzzi, Zach Mentzer Named President's Award Winners at Annual Athletic Banquet
Senior women's soccer standout Michele Petruzzi and senior baseball player Zach Mentzer were named the 2008 President's Award winners on Sunday, April 27th, at the University's annual athletic awards banquet. The award is given each year to a male and female student-athlete who has demonstrated excellence in athletic and academic achievement.

Ram Roundup: Rowing, Cross Country and Basketball Honors; Plus NACMA Award
It was has turned into a banner month of Philadelphia University sporting accomplishments, the Department of Athletics has some exciting news to announce surrounding the women's rowing team, the men's cross country program and sophomore men's basketball standout Malcolm Ingram. In addition, the department recently was awarded a $500.00 grant from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) as part of the NCAA Division II community engagement initiative.

Rhonda Davis has joined Philadelphia University as Director of Fitness and Wellness. She will manage the University's Fitness Center as well as oversee all wellness programs, and support the Department of Athletics' Recreation & Intramural Sports and Physical Education Programs.

Philadelphia University Participates in NCAA Leadership Academy
Student-athletes Nicholas White, men's soccer, and Melissa Hess, field hockey, along with Faculty Athletic Representative Professor Steven Frumkin (pictured with members of the women's tennis team) represented Philadelphia University among more than 300 Division II representatives gathered in Philadelphia from February 15 through 17 at the NCAA Leadership Academy.

Men's basketball Head Coach Herb Magee' 63 and women's basketball Head Coach/Director of Athletics Tom Shirley have now combined for 1,401 all-time wins in their remarkable careers at the collegiate level. Milestone win number 1,400 for the dynamic duo took place at home inside The Gallagher Center on Saturday, February 16, 2008 as Shirley's women downed Felician College by a final score of 85-53.

Norristown, O'Hara, Little Flower and Nazareth Victorious in Quaker City Tournament
The inaugural Quaker City Tournament energized the Gallagher Center on the Philadelphia University campus and raised money and awareness for disadvantaged children in the City of Brotherly Love. In addition, the sixth-grade children of St. Helena School in Blue Bell, Pa. pitched in to assist both One Child Saved and the Retired Sisters of Mercy. A complete recap of the games follows.
