Field Hockey Looks To Make A Statement in 2008

The Lady Rams have the makings of a record-setting season in 2008 and will be a force to be reckoned with in Division II field hockey. The team returns 21 letter winners, including seven starters and will look to improve on last year's 6-12 record.

Under Head Coach Christy Knab's direction, the Lady Rams finished the 2007 season on a three-game winning streak, highlighted by outstanding goalkeeping from seniors Jessica Snyder and Anne Strobel.  A strong offensive line was a constant threat to opponents- anchored by sophomore Lauren Piontkowski.  Piontkowski led the team in goals (11), and currently ranks 10th on the list of all-time leading scorers in school history.

"We ended last season on a high note and will look to bring high intensity into 2008," said Coach Knab.

In goal, Snyder set many career and school records, including ranking first in career saves and second in career victories and career shutouts.  The Lady Rams turned in several strong performances last season, particularly a hard-fought 2-1 loss to perennial Division II powerhouse Shippensburg University, a penalty stroke battle to beat Misericordia, and an 11-0 victory over Immaculata University.

All-American candidate and red-shirt senior Brooke Woodland will return to lead the attack after sitting out last season with a torn ACL.  As a junior, Woodland set nearly every school record offensively, including single season goals (15) and points (37), as well as career goals (37) and points (86). In addition, she also set a school record for goals (4) and points (9) in a single game.

On the left side of the forward line are returning starters junior Leah Arthur and senior Laura Dupler.

On the right side will be returning seniors forward Carson Mumma and Pam Koons, along with sophomore Megan Stefanides.  Also looking to gain a bigger role on the field will be juniors Kaitlyn Korber, and Meredith Evans.

At midfield two players that Coach Knab will look to make an immediate impact are sophomores Danielle Coffaro and Lynette Buck. Other returners include: junior Emily Zuwiala and sophomore Kierstyne McGuire.  Joining the midfield as true freshmen are Lyndsey Moorhead and Alyssa Tullar- both are expected to make significant contributions to the Lady Rams midfield this season.

The Lady Rams open the 2008 season on August 28th at East Stroudsburg set for 4:30 p.m.
