Field Hockey Falls 4-1 to East Stroudsburg in Season-Opener
East Stroudsburg, PA- The Philadelphia University field hockey team (0-1) fell in their season opener 4-1 to East Stroudsburg University (1-0) on the road.
Senior forward Brooke Woodland (West Grove, PA/Avon) scored the Lady Ram's lone goal at 25:05 in the second period, assisted by junior forward Lauren Piontkowski (Haddon Heights, NJ/ Haddon Heights).
The ESSU Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game scoring their first goal less than five minutes into play, and tacked another score onto the board to go into the half up 2-0.
The Lady Rams were outshot 14-8 as the Warriors put up two more quick goals early in the second period to make it 4-0.
Woodland got her first goal of the season and saved the Lady Rams from a shutout as the final score read ESSU 4, PU 1.
Senior goalie Anne Strobel (Middlebury, CT/ Pomperaug) had five saves in goal for Phila U.
The Lady Rams will host Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, September 3rd at 4:00 p.m. for their home-opener.
