Rams Eliminated From CACC Tournament by Dominican College
The Philadelphia University baseball team had their season come to a close today after dropping a 7-1 decision to Dominican College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The game was played at Wilson Field on the campus of Wilmington University in New Castle, Del. The Rams finish the 2008 season 22-22 overall, after capturing a share of the CACC regular season title with a 19-8 conference record. It was their best performance since the 1999 campaign.

Sophomore Tyler Mentzer Tabbed ECAC First-Team All-Star
Sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer continues to garner postseason accolades as he was selected as a 2008 ECAC Division II All-Star. Mentzer was selected as the team's second baseman following a stellar sophomore campaign with the Rams.

Sophomore Second Baseman Tyler Mentzer Named Regional All-American
Sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer was named a regional All-American by two organizations on Monday, capping a stellar season by the Delone (Pa.) Catholic High product. A two-year starter for the Rams, Mentzer was named second-team All-Northeast Region by the American Baseball Coaches of America/Rawlings while also earning second-team All-Northeast Region accolades from Daktronics.

Farbman Receives Rookie of the Week Accolades From Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
Freshman right-hander Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, Pa./Central HS; pictured) has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for games played from May 5-11, 2008. It marks the first CACC weekly award for the talented newcomer, who finished his first collegiate campaign with a sparkling 6-0 record, one save, an ERA of 2.89, 54 strikeouts (vs. just 29 bases-on-balls), and a league-leading three shutouts.

Caldwell Edges Rams 2-0 in CACC Tournament; PhilaU Faces Dominican at 3:00 p.m. Today
CACC Pitcher of the Year Robert Casal threw a gem for Caldwell today and the Cougars defeated the Rams 2-0 to advance to tomorrow's championship round of the conference tournament. Philadelphia University squares off against Dominican at 3:00 p.m. at Wilson Field in New Castle, Del. for the right to join Caldwell on Sunday.

Friday Action at CACC Tournament Postponed
The Friday afternoon games of the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament have been postponed due to heavy rain and play will resume on Saturday, May 10th. Top-seeded Philadelphia University will meet #2 seed Caldwell College in the first game of the day on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Frawley Stadium, the home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, in a winners bracket game.

Zach and Tyler Mentzer Named CACC First-Team All-Conference, Kyle Noonan Tabbed Second-Team, Mark Heineman Selected Top Coach
Senior shortstop Zach Mentzer and sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference on Thursday, with the brothers earning first-team recognition. In addition the the duo, junior right hander Kyle Noonan was selected to the CACC second-team as the Rams went 21-20 in the regular season and clinched a berth in the 2008 CACC Tournament.

Philadelphia University has won their first game in the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament, as the Rams scored early and often to take a 13-0 decision from Felician College.

Rams Split Twinbill at Post to Clinch CACC Regular-Season Title, Top Seed in League Tourney
The Philadelphia University baseball team earned a split in today's doubleheader at Post University in Waterbury, Conn., as the host Eagles notched their tenth straight win with a 3-2 decision in the opener, before Head Coach Mark Heineman's Rams rallied to win game two in eight innings by the same 3-2 margin. After starting 2-12 through March, Philadelphia closed the regular season on a 19-8 run through April and May to finish with an overall record of 21-20, their first winning campaign since 1999.

Rams Sweep Visiting Warriors, Clinch CACC Tournament Berth
Head Coach Mark Heineman and his Philadelphia University baseball team swept visiting Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at home, clinching a berth in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The Rams claimed a 10-1 victory in the opener at Alumni Field before taking a 6-1 decision in the second contest, improving to 20-19 overall on the season and 18-7 in the conference.

Sophomore John Pugh's RBI groundout in the bottom of the 11th inning staked the Philadelphia University baseball team to a key 6-5 win at Wilmington University on Tuesday afternoon as the Rams took sole possession of first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). With four games remaining in the regular season, Head Coach Mark Heineman's team improves to 16-7 in conference play with the victory and 18-19 overall on the year.

Quint Earns First Collegiate Win as Rams Top Felician College 10-8
Freshman pitcher Victor Quint (pictured) earned his first career collegiate victory on Friday afternoon as Philadelphia University registered a 10-8 win over Felician College at home, kicking off a key three-game Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) series with the Golden Falcons. The win, the fifth straight for the Rams, improves them to 16-18 overall and 14-6 in the CACC.

The Philadelphia University baseball team tallied seven runs from the seventh inning on, downing host Chestnut Hill College 9-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played Tuesday night at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pa. Five players had two-hit performances for the Rams, who improve to 13-18 overall and 11-6 in CACC games. Freshman right-hander Jared Farbman remained unbeaten, raising his record to 5-0, while sophomore closer Rob Fisher worked the final two innings to earn his third save of 2008.

Chargers Use Strong Pitching, Sweep Rams in Conference Doubleheader
Dominican College surrendered just four runs in two games on Saturday afternoon, sweeping visiting Philadelphia University by scores of 4-2 and 10-2 in a key conference doubleheader. The Rams, who won the series opener by a 14-13 margin at home on Friday, fall to 11-18 overall and 10-6 in the Central Collegiate Athletic Conference (CACC) with the pair of setbacks in Orangeburg, N.Y.

The Philadelphia University baseball team appeared headed for an easy win after taking a 6-0 lead after the first inning. However, the opener of this weekend's three-game series with the Chargers turned into a slugfest and the Rams were lucky to outlast a game Dominican College team with a 14-13 victory at Alumni Field this afternoon.

Tyler Mentzer, Kyle Noonan and Shannon Shippey Earn Weekly Conference and Region Honors
Three Philadelphia University student-athletes were honored by their respective conferences for performances during the week of April 7-13, 2008. From the baseball team, second baseman Tyler Mentzer (shown) was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week; while Kyle Noonan took home CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week accolades. Shannon Shippey then collected Player of the Week honors in women's lacrosse from the East Coast Conference (ECC). In addition, Mentzer was also tabbed as Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Rams Pound Out 24 Hits, Take 21-3 Win from Devils at Home
Head Coach Mark Heineman saw his Philadelphia University baseball team explode for a season-high 24 hits on Wednesday afternoon as the Rams defeated the University of the Sciences by a 21-3 margin at Alumni Field. The victory improves the Rams to 10-16 overall and 9-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) entering a key conference weekend with Dominican College.

The Philadelphia University baseball team lost a 12-2 decision at Nyack College on Tuesday night. The Rams are now 9-16 overall on the year and 8-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Sophomore third baseman Dan Wothers (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen; pictured) collected two of the Rams' five hits in the loss.

The Philadelphia University baseball team won two games vs. Chestnut Hill College at Alumni Field this afternoon. In the opener, junior pitcher Kyle Noonan (Morristown, N.J./Morristown; pictured in today's game) tossed his second complete game of the week, working seven strong innings, scattering three hits while striking out five Griffins as the Rams earned a convincing 9-1 win.

Baseball Takes Season Series From Regionally-Ranked Cougars
Head Coach Mark Heineman's Philadelphia University baseball team split today's doubleheader with visiting Caldwell College, coming from four runs behind to score a 5-4 comeback win in game one; then falling 9-4 in game two. The Cougars came into this week ranked number four in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Northeast Regional poll. However, the Rams were able to notch a 5-1 win at Caldwell in Parsippany, N.J. on Tuesday, April 8 to go along with today's win in game one of the twinbill to win the season series two games to one versus the Cougars. Senior right-hander Andrew Bednarek (Sea Isle City, N.J./Ocean City; pictured) pitched two-thirds of an inning of clutch relief to earn his first win of the season in today's opener.

Rams Take Pair From Bloomfield; Improve to Second Place in CACC
The Philadelphia University baseball team continued their excellent form in conference play, downing Bloomfield College 10-0 and 6-3 in two seven-inning affairs at Alumni Field this afternoon. Freshman pitcher Jared Farbman struck out ten and went the distance in game one to improve to 3-0 in his first season. In the nightcap, the Rams rallied from three-down to score six unanswered runs to take the season series two games to one versus the Deacons.

Rams Collect 11 Hits, Register 5-4 Win over Post University
The Philadelphia University baseball team pounded out 11 hits, taking a 5-4 victory from Post University at home on Friday afternoon. With the triumph, the Rams improve to 3-13 overall and even their mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at 2-2. The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer connected on his second homerun in as many days. Head Coach Mark Heineman's team extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth when junior outfielder Dan Ellmer drove in senior shortstop Tyler Mentzer with an RBI double.

Sophomore Tyler Mentzer (pictured) hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning for the Philadelphia University baseball team, but it wasn't enough as the Rams fell by a score of 7-6 on Thursday afternoon. Head Coach Mark Heineman's team scored five times in the top of the ninth, but fell one run short in dropping to 2-13 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

Baseball Doubleheader with Chestnut Hill College Postponed; Rescheduled for April 13th
The Philadelphia University baseball doubleheader at home on Tuesday, April 1st with Chestnut Hill College has been postponed due to inclement weather. The conference twinbill with the Griffins has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 13th, replacing a non-league doubleheader with Millersville University. The Rams are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 3rd with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest with Bloomfield College.

Rams Earn Split at USP in Opening CACC Doubleheader
The Philadelphia University baseball team won one and lost one today at the University of the Sciences in games played at Ashburn Field in South Philadelphia. The Rams dropped the opener 6-4 but rebounded for a 7-0 win in the nightcap behind a two-hit, seven-inning complete game shutout performance from freshman righthander Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, Pa./Central; pictured). Philadelphia's lead-off man, center fielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) totaled a 5-for-9 day at the plate; with one run scored, one stolen base and one RBI in the two seven-inning games. The win in today's second game raises the Rams' overall record to 2-12 for the season. Their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) mark is now 1-1 after the doubleheader split at USP that opened league play this afternoon.

Rams Score Four in the Ninth, but Rally Falls Short to East Stroudsburg, 7-6
Head Coach Mark Heineman's Philadelphia University baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Rams' rally fell one run short as they dropped a 7-6 decision to visiting East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday afternoon. The loss, the third straight for Philadelphia University, drops the team to 1-11 overall on the season. The Warriors (10-13) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a pair of unearned runs off sophomore lefthander Brian Rousseau, who went six innings in ultimately suffering his third loss of the season. Heineman's team battled back in the bottom of the third inning when junior outfielder Dan Ellmer (pictured) connected on a two-run double with one out. However, Ellmer was stranded at third as the team's remained tied at 2-2.

Kutztown University righthander Philip Rummel (Exeter, Pa./West-Mont Christian) held Philadelphia University to one run on four hits in seven innings, striking out 10 Rams as the Golden Bears improved to 8-10 with the victory.

Rams Fall at Nationally-Ranked West Chester in Bill Giles Invitational
The Philadelphia University baseball team scored four runs in the top of the first inning against nationally-ranked West Chester University on Tuesday afternoon, but the host Golden Rams battled back, taking an eventual 10-8 decision. With the setback, which came in the semifinals of the 2008 Bill Giles Invitational, the Rams fall to 0-4 on the young season while West Chester improves to a perfect 12-0. Senior catcher Jason Hartley picked up three hits and drove in three runs to pace the Rams while junior outfielder Devin Conroy collected two hits, two runs and two RBI in a losing effort. Junior Kyle Noonan also registered two hits for the Rams including a third inning double.

On Wednesday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m., the Philadelphia University baseball team faces a stern test at Serpico Stadium in West Chester, Pa. The Rams seek to stop the season-opening 11-game winning streak of the sixth-ranked team in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation (NCBWA) Division II National Poll.

Rams' Fall at Home to Regionally-Ranked Bulldogs
This afternoon at Alumni Field, the Philadelphia University baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to Bryant University, ranked number three in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Northeast Region poll. With the victory, the Bulldogs are now 8-3 on the young season and the loss pushes the Rams to 0-3, with the other defeats coming yesterday at the hands of Franklin Pierce University, currently ranked number one in the region.

Rams Open 2008 Season with Doubleheader Setback to #2 Franklin Pierce University
Head Coach Mark Heineman and his Philadelphia University baseball team opened the 2008 season with a pair of losses to second-ranked Franklin Pierce (N.H.) University on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The visiting Ravens took the opener by a 5-2 margin in nine innings before posting a 9-1 victory in the second contest of the day. In the first game, the Rams took a 2-1 lead into the seventh and final inning before surrendering an unearned run that tied the contest, watching the Ravens score three times in the top of the ninth for the victory. Sophomore infielder Tyler Mentzer went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI for the Rams while senior catcher Jason Hartley added an RBI double.

Baseball’s Keith Heck Named CACC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Philadelphia University first baseman/designated hitter Keith Heck was named the male 2006-07 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year in an announcement made Tue., July 10 by Commissioner Dan Mara. He is now eligible for the NCAA Division II Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
