NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University's Paul McElroy's (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) big day against Queens (N.Y.) College allowed the freshman outfielder to take home the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball rookie of the week award Monday.
In Philadelphia's 21-1 triumph over Queens on March 9, McElroy became the first Ram in nearly 11 years to put together a 6-for-6 performance at the plate. McElroy used RBI singles in the first and fourth innings to knock in a pair of runs in his first collegiate start.
The last Philadelphia University baseball player to go 6-for-6 in a single game was Keith Heck on April 4, 2006 in a 15-13 loss to Kutztown.
This season, McElroy is 6-for-10 in the batter's box and has two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Philadelphia (2-8) returns to the field on Friday, March 17 to open CACC play with a doubleheader at Wilmington (Del.) University. First pitch is slated for noon.
