Philadelphia University Field Hockey Drops 7-1 to Bloomsburg
Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University field hockey senior forward Carson Mumma (Lancaster, PA/ Penn Manor) scored her first goal of the season in the first period, but it would not be enough as the Lady Rams (0-2) fell 7-1 to the NCAA Division II defending national champion Bloomsburg University Lady Huskies (3-0) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Rams held the Lady Huskies to just two goals in the first period as Bloomsburg's 2007 NCAA Division II ‘Player of the Year' Jamie Vanartsdalen scored at 24:48 for the Lady Huskies to even it 1-1, and Samantha Kropa gave Bloomsburg the go-ahead at 9:28 left in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.
The Lady Huskies would go on to score five unanswered goals in the second period and run away with the 7-1 victory.
Philadelphia senior goalie Anne Strobel (Middlebury, CT/ Pomperaug) had 20 saves in 64:26 minutes of action, while freshman keeper Kelsey Gavigan (Cape May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) had two stops for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams will compete in the Joshua W. Wesner Tournament at Kutztown University this weekend, facing both Kutztown (1:00 p.m.) and Catawba (7:00 p.m.) on Friday, September 5th and Bellarmine University (KY) on Saturday, September 6th at 9:00 a.m.
