Stefanides Scores in OT To Give Field Hockey 3-2 Win

Kutztown, PA- The Philadelphia University field hockey team (1-3) won a 3-2 overtime battle to record their first victory of the year over Catawba College (0-4) at the Joshua W. Wesner Memorial Tournament, held at Kutztown University on Friday night.

The Lady Rams came out firing, taking 18 shots in the first period alone, and outshooting the Indians 27-12 overall.

Sophomore midfielder Lynette Buck (Aquashicola, PA/ Palmerton) got Phila U. on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal at 19:21.  The Indians responded in the second period at 38:55 to even it at 1-1. 

Just five minutes later senior forward Brooke Woodland (West Grove, PA/ Avon Grove) put the Lady Rams in the lead again 2-1, but Catawba answered back at 47:36 to net what would be their last score of the contest.

Tied at 2-2, the game continued into overtime and in just under three minutes sophomore forward Megan Stefanides (Kingston, PA/ Wyoming Valley West) scored the game-winner, assisted by Woodland. 

Senior goalie Anne Strobel (Middlebury, CT/ Pomperaug) had ten saves in net for the Lady Rams.

Phila U. faces Bellarmine (KY) in their last game of the Joshua W. Wesner Memorial Tournament on Saturday, September 6th at 8:00 a.m.
