Men's basketball cruises to 87-40 win over USciences

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team turned in its most complete performance of the 2016-17 season so far as the Rams cruised to a wire-to-wire 87-40 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over the University of the Sciences Thursday night in the Gallagher Center.

Led by an 18-performace from Brendan Kilpatrick (Norristown, Pa./Malvern Prep)—who was 7-of-7 from the floor, 4-of-4 from three—Philadelphia (5-2, 2-0 CACC) scored a season-high 87 points, shot a season-best 53.6 percent (30-of-56), knocked down a season-high 15 3-pointers on 31 attempts, and committed just six turnovers.

Jordan DeCicco (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) hit four 3-pointers and shot 6-of-14 overall to pour in a career-best 17 points. Kaison Randolph (Trenton, N.J./Pennington Prep) added 16 points—on 5-of-10 shooting—and six rebounds. Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) contributed 13 points.

Defensively, Philadelphia held USciences to 32.7 percent (16-of-49) shooting and forced 14 Devil turnovers. The Rams also turned in a +12-rebound margin (37-25), their best of the year.

The 47-point margin of victory is the largest since the Rams knocked off Mercy College by 59 points (101-42) on January 4, 2009 in Philadelphia.

USciences (1-8, 0-2 CACC) stayed in the contest early on, trailing 8-7 on a Bryan Okolo layup. Then, Philadelphia would put its foot on the gas and outscore USciences 28-9 over the next 14 minutes to go ahead by 20 (36-20) on a Kilpatrick 3-pointer with 2:05 left in the half.

Kilpatrick was 5-of-5 from the floor, 4-of-4 from behind the arc, to score 14 points in the opening half. Randolph connected on three 3-pointers to add 11 points.

Nine different Rams put their name in the scoring column in the second half, led by 12 points from DeCicco and 11 points from Gibbs. Winston Folkes (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) came Philadelphia a game-high 49-point cushion (87-38) when he hit two free throws with 1:02 remaining. In the second half, the Rams scored 51 points, the most in any half this season, and shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27).

Will Gregorits was USciences' leading scorer with 14 points to go along with six rebounds.

Philadelphia travels to Wilmington (Del.) for a CACC matchup with the Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
