BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Jordan DeCicco (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) tied a career-high by making six 3-pointers to record a game-high 26 points for the Philadelphia University men's basketball team in a 70-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Bloomfield College in The Gym Wednesday night.
Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) contributed 14 points, on 6-of-10 shooting, a career-high nine rebounds, and five assists. Making his first start in nearly two years when he played for Fairfield, Malcolm Gilbert (Smyrna, Del./Academy of the New Church) added a career-high 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
Eric Long (Bronx, N.Y./Marianapolis Prep) had nine points, a game-best 10 rebounds, and six assists.
Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) knocked a 3-pointer with 1:13 left in the contest to put the Rams (8-6, 4-2 CACC) in front 67-64. Bloomfield (9-5, 4-1 CACC) got layups from Nick Davidson and Marcus Fleming on its next two possessions to retake the lead 68-67.
With the gap sitting at 70-67 after Rakwan Kelly went 1-of-2 at the free throw line with two seconds left, Kaison Randolph (Trenton, N.J./Pennington Prep) attempted a long 3-pointer at the buzzer, but his game-tying attempt missed the mark.
A quick 5-0 run during the early stages of the second half capped off by a Gilbert dunk gave the Rams a 37-35 advantage. Bloomfield responded with 18 of the next 24 points over a 5:28 span to move ahead by a game-high 10 points (53-43) with 11:59 left.
Philadelphia caught fire as the Rams hit five straight shots, including three 3-pointers—two by Gibbs and one by DeCicco—to go on a 13-2 run to reclaim a one-point lead (56-55) at the 7:48 mark.
The Bears had four players score in double figures, led by 22 points from Davidson. Fleming had 16 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists; while Kelly finished up with 12 points and eight boards.
Philadelphia shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the field, but turned the ball over a season-high 18 times. The Rams had won 42 straight games when shooting at least 50.0 percent from the field.
Bloomfield connected on 37.5 percent (27-of-72) of its shots and committed just 10 turnovers.
Philadelphia returns to action with a CACC contest at Felician on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
