Second half surge leads men’s basketball to 71-57 win at USciences

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team turned in a strong start to the second half of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest against the University of the Sciences Tuesday night and used that momentum to pick up a 71-57 win in Bobby Morgan Arena.

Philadelphia improves to 16-8 overall after winning its fourth straight road contest. The Rams go to 12-3 in conference play and secured their spot in the CACC Tournament.

The team snapped its three-game losing streak in Bobby Morgan Arena. Entering tonight's game, Philadelphia's last win at in Bobby Morgan Arena was March 8, 2013 against Dominican (N.Y.) in the CACC Tournament. Philadelphia also defeated USciences on its home floor for the first time since Dec. 17, 2011—a string of four games.

Kaison Randolph (Trenton, N.J./Pennington Prep) scored eight of his game-high 20 points during a 19-6 run to start the second half that widened Philadelphia's four-point halftime lead to 56-39. After missing their first three shots, the Rams caught fire and made six of their next eight shots, including four three-pointers, to go on the big run.

Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepanic) drained a layup with 7:24 left—as part of a 14-point night—to cap a run of six straight Philadelphia points and give the Rams their largest lead of the game (62-44).

In the final 20 minutes, Philadelphia shot 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from the floor, including four 3-pointers, and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) at the line. The Rams held the Devils to 35.5 percent (11-of-31) shooting.

USciences led for the game's opening 10 minutes, taking a six-point advantage (12-6) on a Jon McGill 3-pointer at the 15:46 mark.

Josh Bradanese (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) put Philadelphia in front 23-20 with a 3-pointer with 8:45 left in the half. The Rams' first-half lead reached eight (30-22) on a Prince Hickson (Amityville, N.Y./Upper Room Christian) jumper at the 6:40 mark. Philadelphia was up 37-33 at halftime.

Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) paced the Philadelphia offense during the first half, shooting 6-of-8 in the opening 20 minutes to score 14 of his game total 16 points.

Bradanese finished the game with 13 points and eight rebounds.

USciences (10-14, 8-8 CACC) had four players in double figures, led by Bryan Okolo's 13 points. Beni Toure added 12 points, while Will Gregorits and McGill scored 10 points.

Philadelphia shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) overall and forced USciences to shoot just 38.1 percent (24-of-63).

The Rams host Caldwell on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. in a CACC battle as part of Alumni Day and Senior Day.
