NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Alexander Gorton and senior Yevgen Sakhniuk of the Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball team were named the CACC Men's Basketball Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Senior Kaison Randolph earned a spot on the conference weekly honor roll. The news was announced by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference office.
ALEXANDER GORTON – CACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Gorton scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in the team's 103-81 victory over Bridgeport on Sunday. The freshman shot 7-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-4 from three-point range. It comes as his second-straight rookie of the week award (Nov. 20) from the conference and the third time he was recognized by the CACC after being named to the honor roll (Nov. 13) earlier in the season.
YEVGEN SAKHNIUK – CACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sakhniuk tied for a team-high 12 rebounds in the Sunday victory over Bridgeport. He also had two blocks in the game. This comes as his first weekly accolade from the CACC in 2017-18.
KAISON RANDOLPH – CACC HONOR ROLL
Randolph scored a game- and season-high 26 points on Sunday. He tallied his 1000th career point with 1:41 left in the second half, becoming the 55th from the program to do so. He has now scored double figures in seven of the team's eight games in 2017-18.
