Strong Second Half Leads Men’s Basketball to 69-60 CACC Road Win at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball team (5-5, 1-0 CACC) began CACC play on Saturday afternoon in Lakewood, N.J. with a 69-60 victory at Georgian Court (0-9, 0-1 CACC).

Senior Kaison Randolph scored a game-high 21 points on 5-of-12 shooting including three made three-pointers along with 8-of-8 free throws. Randolph scored 11 in the first half and 10 in the second. The senior also had three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Freshman Alexander Gorton scored all 18 of his points in the second half. In the final 20 minutes, he made 6-of-8 from the field as he shot 4-of-5 from deep.

Senior Yevgen Sakhniuk notched 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting while going 6-of-8 from the charity strike. He also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Sophomore Kylan Guerra recorded 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals on Saturday.

Four of the five Jefferson starters (Gorton, Guerra, Randolph, Sakhniuk) played all 40 minutes in the win.

Jefferson trailed by four at the end of the first half, 30-26, after shooting just 30.4 percent as a team. The Rams went out to an early 16-7 advantage before an 11-2 run by the Lions tied up the game at 18. Georgian Court took the lead at 23-22 and extended the margin to four before the end of the first half.

After shooting just 7-of-23 from the floor in the first half, Jefferson made the halftime adjust as they went 13-of-24 in the second half for a 54.2 field-goal percentage;

The Rams called a timeout with 12:31 remaining after failing behind as many as eight. Following that timeout, the Rams went on a quick 8-0 run to tie the affair up at 40-40.

Jefferson grabbed the lead for good with 7:31 to play when Gorton made a three to give the Rams a 46-44 edge.

Jefferson shot 42.6 percent from the field as a team while hitting 33.3 percent of their three-points (10-of-30).
