Men’s golf sits ninth after day one of CACC Championship

MIDDLETOWN, Del. – The Philadelphia University men's golf team is in ninth place after the opening day of action at the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship held at Back Creek Golf Course.

Led by a trio of Rams with shot 83 (+12) on Tuesday, Philadelphia had a team score of 336 (+52).

Peter Mahal (Great Meadows, N.J./Hackettstown), Nicholas Nguyen (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), and Jayson Gonzalez-Adams (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa Bell) all are in a deadlock for 31st-place after carding 83s. Mahal and Nguyen were +4 on the front nine and +8 on the back nine, while Gonzalez-Adams was +6 on the front and +6 on the back.

Nguyen led the Rams with nine pars and a birdie on the par-4 12th hole. Mahal birdied the par-4 6th.

Thomas Lucci (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) finished the opening round in a tie for 43rd with a round of 87 (+16). Austin Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) completed Philadelphia's lineup by shooting 91 (+20) to end up in 48th.

Wilmington (Del.) University is leading the team championship through 18 holes with a team score of 302 (+18). Felician University is sitting in second at 311 (+27) with Dominican (N.Y.) College is close behind in third with a 312 (+28).

Felician's Andrew Geesey is the individual leader after a round of 73 (+2).
