Men's golf defeats Penn State-Abington to open the spring

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's golf team opened its spring season with a two-stroke victory over Penn State-Abington Tuesday afternoon at The ACE Club.

Led by a seven-over par second-place round of 79 from Nick Nguyen (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), Philadelphia posted the winning score of 337. Penn State-Abington finished its day with a combined score of 339.

Peter Mahal (Great Meadows, N.J./Hackettstown) and Thomas Lucci (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) completed their rounds tied for fifth overall with a score of 85 (+13). Austin Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) turned in a scorecard of 88 (+16) to come in seventh place and round out the Rams' scoring.

Jacob Williams (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) had the ninth-place score of 92 (+20).

Michael Grosso (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and John Cecil (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) also competed in the event and took part as individuals. Grosso was third with a score of 80 (+8), while Cecil finished in a deadlock for 10th after shooting a 93 (+21).

The Nittany Lions' Mike Lam recorded the winning score of 73 (+1).

Philadelphia now has two weeks off before returning to action with a tri-match against Cabrini and Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, March 21 at noon at The ACE Club.
