Men’s soccer falls to Felician in overtime

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

The Golden Falcons' Martin Williams scored the match's lone goal just 31 seconds into overtime. Williams received a through ball on the left wing, cut inside his defender, and placed the ball in the right side of the net for the winner.

During the second half, Philadelphia's Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) made two tremendous defensive plays to keep the match scoreless.

At the 51:05 mark, Felician's Charlie Macaskill broke free and dribbled around Philadelphia keeper Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman). Macaskill took a sharp-angle shot from the right post at what he thought was an open net, but Rocha got back to head the ball off the line.

Eight minutes later, Felician took a corner kick that Macaskill got to in the box. Rocha, once again, was able to deny Macaskill as he was standing on the goal line and cleared the ball away with his head.

Felician (1-5-2, 1-2-1 CACC) outshot Philadelphia (1-5-2-, 1-3-1 CACC), 16-11.

Gutierrez recorded five saves for the Rams, while Felician's Jasur Tursunboyev stopped three shots.

Philadelphia heads to Bloomsburg for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
