Men's soccer stays in CACC race with 3-1 win at Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team remained in the hunt for a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament with a 3-1 victory over conference opponent Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia picked up its third win in its last four outings as the Rams improve to 5-9-1 overall. The Rams are now 4-6-1 in CACC play and are one of six teams in the mix for the final two positions in the upcoming conference tournament.

The Rams close out CACC play on Tuesday, Oct. 25 against Chestnut Hill at 2:30 p.m. on Ravenhill Field.

Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell (London, England/John Lyon) got into the goal column for the second straight game, third time this season, at the 5:23 mark with an unassisted goal to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage.

Late in the first half, the Rams received a huge save from keeper Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) to keep the Bears (4-9-2, 3-6-2 CACC) off the board. Gutierrez stoned Rafique Roberts on a penalty kick—one of seven first-half saves, which was awarded for a foul in the box.

The Rams carried the momentum from Gutierrez's save over to the second half as free-kick specialist Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierre de Coubertin) scored on a set piece just over six minutes in to double the lead to 2-0. Rose now has a team-high five goals—four on free kicks and the fifth on a header off of a free kick.

Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) recorded Philadelphia's third goal at 65:46 with a shot from just outside the penalty area that deflected off of a Bloomfield defender and by Wilson Cisneros. Rocha now has four goals.

The Bears' Nicholas Calabia denied the Rams the shutout with an unassisted tally with just 1:49 left in the match.

Gutierrez fininshed the match with eight stops, while Cisneros made two saves in the Bloomfield net. The Bears owned a 14-6 shot advantage.
