Men’s Soccer Drops Close 1-0 Contest to Mercy on Tuesday Afternoon

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (1-2) dropped a nonconference affair on the road to the Mercy Mavericks (3-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. by a final of 1-0.

The Rams had chances in the second half, including a penalty shot, but could not find the equalizer against the Mavericks as Jefferson fell in the shutout.

The Mavericks scored in the 10th minute to take an initial 1-0 lead early on at Mercy Field, which sits on the banks of the Hudson River. Mercy's Lucca Lacerda dribbled past the Jefferson defense to take a shot to the low right side of the goal.

The Rams managed six shots in the opening half with two on target as Mercy took the one-goal advantage into halftime.

Jefferson had its chances in the second half. In the 47th minute, the Rams had the first corner of the second half, one of seven on the day and four in the second half, but could not convert.

In the 56th minute, Jefferson was awarded a penalty kick on a Mercy foul. Senior Seiji Rose took the shot but it was saved by Mercy keeper Kwan Van der Lara, one of five on the day for him. The Rams had another corner opportunity second later but were not able to get a shot off.

Mercy clung to their initial goal in the opening half, which was enough to hold off the Rams. It came as the Mavericks' only shot on goal in the match.

Senior Pedro Neto, Rose, sophomore Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell, sophomore Hunter Dyson and redshirt junior Dermot Hughes managed the five shots on target for Jefferson as the Rams led that total, 5-0.

The Rams doubled the Mavericks up on total shots as well, 12-6, and had a 7-4 edge on corners.
