PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (7-2-1, 6-0-1 CACC) kept its six-match winning streak alive after playing the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (8-3-1, 4-2-1 CACC) to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday from Ravenhill Field.
The Rams trailed by two goals late in the contest before coming back to tie it up to send it into extra time.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Nicolas Ladeira scored in the 25th minute after playing a shot by Chahin Aghrim off the crossbar, 1-0.
Goldey-Beacom took a 2-0 advantage when Mateus Silvestre scored on a one timer after a pass from Aghrim from the left side into the box in the 76th minute, 2-0.
Two minutes later in the 78th minute, Jefferson found their way onto the scoreboard when junior Jason Rocha scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season after gathering the rebound from senior Seiji Rose's free kick, 2-1.
Freshman Val Mokrejs scored his first collegiate goal in the 80th minute, coming as the equalizer to even up the score 2-2. Rose was the first to touch the ball after a thrown in before he found Mokrejs with a quick pass in front of the goal, 2-2.
With two assists on the day, Rose now as a team-best seven on the season and ranks second on the squad with 11 points. Rocha leads the squad with 14 points on five goals and four assists.
With the sun now setting, the two teams battled in the two ten-minute periods of extra time but neither could find the game-winning goal as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
In total, Jefferson outshot Goldey-Beacom 24-15.
Senior keeper Ben Sauer (T, 7-2-1) made six saves for the Rams across a full 110 minutes.
The Rams will face the Concordia Clippers on Ravenhill Field this Saturday, Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m. for the Rams Homecoming Weekend.
