Men’s Soccer Overpowers Bloomsburg in Monday Afternoon Affair, 5-1

PHILADELPHIA –The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (13-3-1), winners of their last four contests, took down the Bloomsburg Huskies (3-12-0) in a nonconference matchup from Ravenhill Field by a final of 5-1 on Monday.

The five goals is a season high for the Rams and the most October 10, 2015.

Jefferson used four first-half goals to secure the victory, scoring on their first four shots of the match.

Sophomore Rashaan Robe and junior Jason Rocha each had two first-half goals.

For Rocha, it was his first multi-goal game of the season and the second of his career, ironically since the men's 5-2 victory over Felician back on October 10, 2015, the last time they scored five goals in a game. He now has a team-high eight goals and 22 points in 2017.

It was Robe's first career two-goal game. He scored the first goal of the contest in the 4th minute when sophomore Musa Kalombe played a free kick outside of the box which Robe headed in, 1-0.

In the 20th minute, junior Jason Mendez made a pass beyond midfield to Rocha, who was able to easily score after a misplay from the Bloomsburg keeper, 2-0.

In the 22nd minute, Bloomsburg got on the board on a similar play, scoring after a free kick and deflection by the Jefferson keeper, 2-1.

The Rams waited only 27 seconds to respond, going back up by two goals when Robe notched his second of the game on an assist from sophomore Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell, 3-1.

In the 26th minute, Rocha chipped in an unassisted goal over the keeper after a steal to go up 4-1, a lead which Jefferson had at halftime.

The fifth and final goal for the Rams came late in the match when freshman Daniel Blackford played a cross to junior Dermot Hughes. Hughes took the ball up to the top of the box before taking his shot, 5-1.

Going up early in the game gave the Rams a chance to have some reserves get some minutes in the nonconference contest. Freshman Michael Dunn made his first career appearance in goal after relieving senior Ben Sauer (W, 13-3-1) for the final 41:49 minutes of play. Sauer made three saves on the afternoon while Dunn made one diving stop.
