Men’s Soccer Defeats Bloomfield, 4-0, in Semifinals; CACC Championship Set for Sunday

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (15-4-1, No. 1 seed) took down the Bloomfield Bears (12-4-2, No. 4 seed) in the CACC Semifinals on Friday afternoon from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J., the site of the 2017 CACC Soccer Championships. The Rams shutout the Bears by a 4-0 final, the ninth shutout of the season for Jefferson.

The win gets Jefferson and CACC Coach of the Year Ptah Myers into the CACC Championship match on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. The Rams will meet the winner of No. 2 Goldey-Beacom and No. 6 Post.

After a nearly scoreless first half, senior Valdo Jean-Baptiste gave the Rams the 1-0 advantage in the 41st minute as he scored when his shot with was deflected in the box to get past the Bloomfield keeper.

Taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Jefferson scored three second-half goals to push past the Bears and into the CACC Championship match for the first time since 2014.

Junior Dillon Abraham scored the Rams' second goal in the 67th minute to go up 2-0. CACC Player of the Year Seiji Rose played a free kick to Abraham, who was able to chip it over the Bears' keeper. Rose, a senior, now has 12 assists on his senior season.

Six minutes later in the 73rd minute, Jefferson took a 3-0 lead on CACC First Team selection Jason Rocha's team-leading ninth goal of the campaign. Rocha, a junior, played a pass from sophomore Musa Kalombe, who grabbed the assist of the play.

Sophomore Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell beat the Bloomfield keeper one-on-one in the box, taking a shot to the left side, for Jefferson's fourth and final goal of the afternoon in the 81st minute. It came as the sophomore's seventh goal of 2017, which ranks second most on the team.

Senior keeper Ben Sauer (15-4-1) notched his career-high ninth shutout of the season in goal for the Rams. The Bel Air, Maryland native made seven saves in 90 minutes, lowering his season goals against average to 0.91.

Bloomfield led shots 15-13, while Jefferson led shots on goal, 10-7.

The Rams return to the CACC Championship match for the first time since 2014 on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. at GCU Turf Field from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. Tickets for the event are $6 for adults, #3 for children/seniors/students. Children under the age of three are free.
