PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team picked up a 5-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Post University Saturday night at the Legacy Youth Tennis Education Center.
The Rams (5-9, 2-1 CACC) earned their first point at No. 3 doubles as the duo of Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) and Vincent Breer (Heidelberg, Germany/English Institut Heidelberg) cruised to an 8-3 win over Ryan Moffat and Jonathyn Young. The victory is the fourth for the tandem this season.
In singles play, Philadelphia recorded singles victories at No. 3-6 to pick up a big conference victory.
At No. 3, Breer was a 6-1, 6-4 winner against Ludvig Henrikson to earn his fifth win of the season. Atri notched his team-leading ninth triumph with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Peter Fanous in the No. 4 match. Juan Velosa (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) recorded his third win, first at No. 5, as he took out Vladyslav Dyenyezka 6-3, 6-2.
The clinching point of the match came from James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) a three-set winner over Moffat in the No. 6 match. Pollard won the first set 6-4, but Moffat came back to claim the second set 7-5. Pollard bounced back nicely in the third set, winning 6-2 to secure the match and record his seventh win.
Philadelphia welcomes six-time defending CACC champion Concordia (N.Y.) for a conference match on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m.
