BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team secured a place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament with a 6-3 victory over host Bloomfield in a CACC match Saturday afternoon at Brookdale Park.
Philadelphia—who will make its second straight appearance in the CACC Tournament—improves to 8-10 overall and 3-3 against the conference. The Rams have won three straight matches for the first time this year.
The Rams got off to a quick start, sweeping the three doubles matches.
The No. 1 team of Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) and Luis Molina Megias (Gran Canaria, Spain/Atlantic School Garoe) and the No. 2 tandem of James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Sean DiBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) picked up Philadelphia's first two points with 8-2 wins. Juan Velosa (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) and Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) recorded the Rams' third point, defeating Thulani Hove and Ville Heikkilae 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Atri made the score 4-0 in the Rams' favor with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adam Carter in the No. 3 singles match. De Vera Rehberger locked up the match and a place in the CACC Tournament by knocking off Heikkilae 6-2, 6-2 in a clash of No. 1s.
Molina Megias recorded Philadelphia's sixth point in No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Vadim Kustov.
Philadelphia hosts Kutztown in a non-conference match on Monday, April 18 at 3 p.m.
