PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team moved its winning streak to four with an 8-1 win over Kutztown in the Rams' final non-conference match of the season Monday on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia, a winner in five of its last six, improves to 9-10 overall while Kutztown dips to 2-13.
The Rams got off to a strong start by sweeping the three doubles matches.
Philadelphia's top duo of Celso de Vera Rehberger and Luis Molina Megias () notched its seventh win of the season with an 8-4 triumph against Gabriel Nogara Souza and Joan Oliver Perez. James Pollard and Sean DiBlasio recorded its team-leading ninth win, edging out Rich Lichtenwalner and David Nunez Contreras 8-6 at No. 2. Jacobo Atri and Juan Velosa went to 4-0 with an 8-1 win at No. 3 against Filip Lagerqvist and Neal Kerschner.
De Vera Rehberger improved to 9-8 at No. 1 singles as he was a straight set winner over Nogara Souza 6-2, 6-3. Molina Megias earned his 10th win of the year, needing a tiebreak to get passed Oliver Perez 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3). Atri improved his team-best record to 14-4 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Lichtenwalner.
Pollard rallied for a set down to defeat Nunes Contreras 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5 singles and earn his 10th win. DeBlasio claimed the No. 6 flight, 6-3, 6-0 against Kerschner.
Philadelphia closes out the regular season with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match against the University of the Sciences on Tuesday, April 19 at 3 p.m.
