NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a perfect 5-0 week, Philadelphia University men's tennis freshman Joseph Sison (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) was tabbed as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rookie of the week for the first time in his career Monday.
Sison posted singles victories against Cabrini University, the University of the Sciences, and Bloomfield College to end the week 3-0. He defeated Cabrini's Sean Jaeger 6-1, 6-1 to help the Rams win the match 9-0. In a 6-3 loss to USciences, Sison recorded Philadelphia's lone singles victory, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) over Sahas Chandragiri. He closed out the week with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Bloomfield's Nikola Seles as part of a 9-0 Ram win.
He teamed up with Liviu Trifoi (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) to go 2-0 at No. 2 doubles. The tandem edged out USciences Borna Novak and Tajay McLeod for a 9-8 (7-5) win and knocked off Bloomfield's Thulani Hove and Seles, 8-3.
This season, Sison has a 7-4 singles record and won four straight matches. Four of his wins have come in the No. 5 spot of the lineup. In doubles play, he is 7-4—6-1 when paired up with Trifoi.
Philadelphia (8-5) hosts Chestnut Hill in a CACC match on Thursday, April 13 at 3 p.m. on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
