CLERMONT, Fla. – The Philadelphia University softball team fell to Indiana (Pa.) 3-0 on Monday afternoon in the PFX Spring Games. The Rams game against the University of Bridgeport was rained out.
Philadelphia got two hits off of Indiana pitcher Lauren Zola. Naomi Stas (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) recorded a one-out double in the third and Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had a double with two outs in the seventh.
The Crimson Hawks (5-2) scored all three of its runs with two away in the third inning. With runners at first and third, Megan Little delivered a base hit to left field that scored Alaina Montgomery for the game's first run. Hannah Mercer was responsible for the other two runs and she roped a double to right that made it a 3-0 game.
Down to its final out, Philadelphia (1-5) attempted to put together a rally. LilyAnn Yoakum (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) entered the game as a pinch hitter and was plunked by a Zola pitcher. In the next at-bat, Weaver came through with her double to put runners at second and third. The rally came to an end with a ground out to third base.
Stas suffered the loss despite allowing just five hits in six innings of work. She struck out two batters. Zola posted seven strikeouts to earn the complete-game win.
Philadelphia returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 against California (Pa.) and Franklin Pierce. The Rams face the Vulcans at 1 p.m. and the Ravens at 3:30 p.m.
