NYACK, N.Y. – Eleven different Rams put in their name in the scoring column as the Philadelphia University women's basketball team cruised to a 70-49 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road win at Nyack College Saturday afternoon.
Erin Rafter (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led the way for the Rams (11-8, 6-4 CACC) as she shot 9-of-11 from the floor to record a career high 20 points in 29 minutes of action. Rafter—who scored in double figures for the first time in her career—also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 16 points—knocking down four 3-pointers—six rebounds, and three assists.
Jessica Kaminski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) contributed 10 points, five rebounds, four assists.
The Rams shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the floor, matching their season high, and dished out 17 assists, their second-best total of the season. Philadelphia improves to 5-0 when shooting at least 40.0 percent from the floor.
After leading by as many as nine (18-9) in the opening 10 minutes of play, Philadelphia owned an 18-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Rams stepped up their play in the second, winning the quarter 17-6 to take a 35-20 lead at halftime. In that second quarter, Philadelphia shot 7-of-12 from the floor, led by a perfect 4-of-4 effort by Rafter who had eight points, and forced eight Nyack (3-12, 2-7 CACC) turnovers. Also, the Rams did not commit a foul.
The margin did not dip below 10 points over the final 20 minutes. Nyack got as close as 10 points on two occasions (39-29 and 41-31 in the third quarter. Philadelphia's lead reached a game-high 25 points when Alicia Lister (Blandon, N.J./Muhlenburg) made two free throws with 49 seconds to play to make the score 68-43.
Bryanna Brown paced Nyack—who shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) overall—with 11 points coming off the bench.
Philadelphia now will have 10 days off before hosting Chestnut Hill in a CACC clash on Tuesday, Jan 24 at 6 p.m.
