EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (6-0) moved to 6-0 on the season with a 74-53 road win at East Stroudsburg (4-2) on Sunday afternoon.
The 6-0 start in the best start for the Rams since 1992-93 under current head coach Tom Shirley.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists.
Redshirt junior Erin Maher finished with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting including 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski had seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds on the day.
The Rams made seven three-points in the win and outrebounded the Warriors, 48-34. Jefferson had 16 offensive rebounds which helped lead to 17 second-chance points compared to ESU's six second-chance points.
After going up 20-11 in the first quarter, the Warriors closed the gap to finish the opening period on an eight-point run, trimming the Rams' lead to one.
East Stroudsburg took the lead early in the second quarter before Cunningham drilled a three to make it 26-24 in favor of Jefferson with 7:45 to play in the second. The Rams ended the half on a seven-point run to take a 43-33 lead into the break.
Jefferson limited East Stroudsburg to just 20 points in the second half while scoring 31 themselves. While holding the Warriors to seven points in the fourth quarter, the Rams grabbed their largest lead of the day, 21 points, with 1:02 to play in regulation.
Jefferson Women's Basketball returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Kutztown with a 7 p.m. start.
