Women's lacrosse rolls to 19-3 Senior Day win over Post

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team notched its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of 2017, defeating Post University 19-3 on Senior Day held Saturday afternoon at the Salvation Army KROC Center.

Prior to the start of the match, the program honored seniors Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie), Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.), and Alyssa Matthews (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) with a brief ceremony.

Once the match got underway, it was all Philadelphia (2-4, 1-1 CACC) as the Rams had a season-high eight different players get into the goal column. The 19 goals are a season-best.

Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) had a strong match, racking up a game-high four goals, six draw controls, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. Matthews turned in a six-point effort as she scored three times and dished out three assists. Laura Dunne (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) filled up the stat sheet with three goals, two assists, two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Shaw and DiGnazio both recorded four points in the victory. Shaw had three goals, and one assist to go along with seven ground balls and five draw controls, while DiGnazio posted two goals and two assists.

Erin Eckert (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored twice and Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem East) and Sarah von Lange (Marriottsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) both added a goal and an assist.

Philadelphia recorded eight goals over the opening 18:47 to take an 8-0 advantage. After Gabriela Middleton and Leona Steven scored back-to-back goals to bring Post (0-7, 0-3 CACC) within 8-2 at the 7:48 mark, Philadelphia ran off the final six goals of the half to lead 14-2 at the break.

The Rams played keep away for a majority of the second half, but still managed to score five times to extend the gap to 19-2. Post's Aolani Hermosura found the back of the net with 4:07 left to close out the score.

Victoria Raimondi (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) stopped five Post shots to earn her second win of the season. The Eagles' Alana Lopez recorded seven saves.

The Rams attempted a season-high 40 shots—29 in the first half—to outshoot Post 40-12.

Philadelphia travels to Georgian Court for a CACC match on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m.
