Women's rowing brings in eight for 2017-18

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University women's rowing head coach Chris O'Brien and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Nancy Olewnik are excited to announce their eight-member recruiting class, the largest in the program's 10-year history, that will join the Rams for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Patti Alvarado
Miami Beach, Fla.
Miami Beach Rowing Association
Coach Olewnik on Alvarado: "While on spring break, we were able to meet Patti and see her in action. She has tremendous energy and experience."

Annie Demetroules
Warwick, N.Y.
Warwick High School
Coach Olewnik on Demetroules: "Annie has more rowing than coxswain experience; however, we believe that her rowing experience and knowledge will make her a valuable asset to the team."

Erica Lehman
Ridgewood, N.J.
Ridgewood High School
Coach Olewnik on Lehman: "Erica brings passion and potential to Philadelphia University. We're excited to have Erica a part of our team."

Jenna-Lynne D'Agostino
Bay Shore, N.Y.
Bay Shore High School
Coach Olewnik on D'Agostino: "We're excited to have Jenna-Lynn a part of the team. She only rowed in the spring, so we're excited to see her grow as she rows throughout the school year. She continued to set personal bests throughout her senior year. Her dedication to continued improvement will be a valuable asset next year."

Jillian Paternoster
Hopewell Junction, N.Y.
Hudson River Rowing Association
Coach O'Brien on Paternoster: "Jill brings a wealth of experience and boat feel to the recruiting class. Jillian has rowed throughout the summers at prestigious races such as Independence Day Regatta, US Rowing Club Nationals, and Canadian Henley. She brings both small boat and big boat experience to Philadelphia University, which is hard to find in high school recruits"

Sarah Wilson-Leslie
Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
Lower Merion High School
Coach O'Brien on Wilson-Leslie: "Having rowed for four years at Lower Merion High School, Sarah is familiar with the Schuylkill River and the history of rowing in Philadelphia. She has seen the Dad Vail Regatta first hand and is thrilled to contribute to the speed of Philadelphia University next year. Sarah has experience sculling and sweep rowing, which bodes well for her success at the collegiate level."

Colton Salomon-Lowden
Ocean City, N.J.
Ocean City High School Crew
Coach Olewnik on Salomon-Lowden: "When Colton visited in the fall, she fit right in. While she has standout stats, she also fits in well with the culture and personalities of the team."

Hannah Tobinus
Pottstown, Pa.
Owen J. Roberts High School
Coach O'Brien on Tobinus: "We have known of Hannah since her sister (Rachael) started rowing here. We're excited to have Hannah join our team because we know of her passion for rowing, commitment to the team, and drive towards improvement."

Philadelphia University will begin practicing in September with planned fall races at the Navy Day Regatta and Head of the Schuylkill.
