PhilaU’s Women’s Soccer Announces 12 Recruits in 2009-10

Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University head women's soccer coach George Dunbar has announced the addition of 12 student-athletes to join the Lady Rams in 2009.  The incoming freshmen hail from six different states, including four from the Philadelphia area.

"We're bringing in one of our best recruiting classes in several years," said head coach George Dunbar.  "I'm expecting a handful of these freshmen to make an immediate impact," he continued.   

Area players include: defender/midfielder Denna Allen (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville)- a four-year varsity starter at Phoenixville, named All-League three times and the PAC All-Star Team as a senior.  Goalie Kelli Kowalewski (Shamong, NJ/ Seneca)- a three-year varsity soccer and basketball player at Seneca, who also played for the Medford Soccer Club.  Forward Lauren Pfister (Moorestown, NJ/ Moorestown) - a three year varsity soccer and softball player who led the Moorestown soccer team to a conference championship in 2008.  Forward/midfielder Mallory DeViedma (Downingtown, PA/ Downingtown East) wraps up the local group, a three-year varsity soccer player and PIAA State semi-finalist in 2007. 

Other Pennsylvania recruits include forward/midfielders Nicole Grimm (Stroudsburg, PA/ Stroudsburg) and Morgan McCarthy (Beaver, PA/ South Side).  Grimm is four-year varsity soccer player and cross country runner, named soccer second-team all-area as both a sophomore and junior.  McCarthy was a four-year letter-winner in volleyball, basketball and track at South Side High School.

Of the remaining recruits, three were All-State selections at their respective schools including defenders Chelsea Riedell (Gilbert, AZ/ Highland), Maura Kasierski (Charlton, MA/ Shepherd Hill Regional) and forward Trisha Sileo (Islip, NY/ Islip).  Midfielder Melissa Copeland (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) an All-Conference selection as a senior and four-year varsity defender Jessica Stec (Pleasant Valley, NY/ Lady of Lourdes) along with two-year varsity defender/center back Jessica Charlemagne (Columbus, OH/ St. Francis DeSales) round out the group.
