NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University forward Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) and keeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) were both recognized by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Monday. Reyes was tabbed as the CACC player of the week, while Messner was named the CACC defensive player of the week.
Reyes scored in both of the Rams' contests last week, extending her goal streak to three. She notched the match-winning goal in the 18th-minute of Philadelphia's 1-0 victory over conference opponent Caldwell, the Rams' first win of the season, on Sept. 10. In the Rams' 2-1 loss to Queens (N.Y.) on Sept. 7, Reyes scored the team's goal in the fifth-minute.
She is leading the CACC in goals (3), points (6), and shots (13).
Messner recorded her first shutout with Philadelphia University, stopping five saves in the victory over Caldwell, to earn the defensive player of the week award.
A transfer from Kutztown, Messner is 1-0-1 and ranked second in the conference in goals against average (0.90) and save percentage (.867), and 13th in saves.
Philadelphia (1-1-1, 1-0-1 CACC) travels to Georgian Court for a CACC clash on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
