NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University junior keeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) picked up her second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) defensive player of the week award on Monday.
Messner—who previously won the award on Sept. 12—stopped all six shots she faced during a perfect 2-0-0 week. In a 2-1 victory over Molloy on Sept. 20, Messner recorded five saves. The lone blemish against Messner and the Rams was an own goal on a bad back pass. Messner came back on Sept. 24 to stop one shot in a 3-0 CACC triumph against Felician.
In six appearances—five starts—in 2016, Messner is 3-1-1 with a 1.23 goals against average and a .781 save percentage. She is ranked third in the CACC in shutouts (3), fourth in wins and goals against average, sixth in save percentage, and 12th in saves (25).
Philadelphia (3-3-1, 2-2-1 CACC) heads to the University of Bridgeport to take on the 10th-ranked Purple Knights on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m.
