WILMINGTON, Del. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss at Goldey-Beacom Wednesday afternoon on Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
Philadelphia (5-6-1, 4-3-1 CACC) controlled the majority of the play in the opening half, owning an 8-3 advantage in shot attempts and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The Rams' best chance to score came at the 26:46 when Dena Noiseux (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) ripped a shot that beat Lightning keeper Cindell Aguirre, but drilled the crossbar.
Just a few minutes later, Goldey-Beacom (9-3-1, 5-2-1 CACC) was awarded a penalty kick after one of its players was tripped inside the penalty area. The Lightning's Amy Runciman converted the penalty kick at 30:42 for her sixth goal of the season.
Philadelphia started the second half by attempting a pair of shots in the first five minutes. The Rams got two more shots off in the final 15 minutes, getting one on target that was stopped by Aguirre.
The Rams finished the match outshooting the Lightning 12-7.
Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made one save for the Rams, while Aguirre had three.
Philadelphia returns home to face Post in a CACC match on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon.
