PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team and head coach George Dunbar, entering his 19th season, announced the 2017 schedule on Tuesday. The 17-match slate features nine home matchups including six against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents. In total, the Rams will play 12 CACC matches.
"We have a young team heading into the new season that we look to pair with our solid core from a year ago," said Coach Dunbar. "We look forward to working hard in preseason and improving as this season approaches."
The Rams fell in the CACC quarterfinals in 2016 and look to bounce back this season after winning the conference championship in both 2014 and 2015 to earn NCAA Tournament bids.
The 2017 season begins under the lights at Millersville on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. with a road test for Jefferson.
From there, the Rams' home opener at Ravenhill Field falls on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a noon start.
The next three for Jefferson are on the road. Post represents the first conference match for the Rams on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2:30 p.m. A midweek nonconference matchup at LIU Post on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. comes next. The start of seven-straight conference affairs begins on the road at Caldwell on Friday, Sept. 15 before the Rams return home for Georgian Court at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
After Georgian Court, the Rams are on the road at Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, Sept. 23 before returning home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. with Holy Family. The month of September closes at Felician on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a 5:30 p.m. start.
October continues the conference slate in addition to four-straight home matches to start the month. First, the Rams go up against Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. followed by Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 7 at noon for Homecoming Day.
A nonconference home match against Bridgeport is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. before the home stretch concludes with Bloomfield on Saturday, Oct. 14 at noon.
With four matches remaining on the schedule come mid-October, Jefferson then faces Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
The eighth and penultimate home match of the season comes as Jefferson welcomes Nyack for a CACC matchup at noon on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The final regular season road test will be at Wilmington on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Delaware before the regular season home finale against Molloy at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27.
The CACC Championship begins with first round action on Tuesday, Oct. 31 with the top seeds serving as home sites. The semifinal and final rounds on Friday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 5 will be played at Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J.
