Freshman Daniela Rodriguez Recognized by ITA as Top Freshman

Freshman Daniela Rodriguez was named the 2008 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) East Rookie of the Year on Monday. The freshman from Quito, Ecuador, played #2 singles and #2 doubles for Philadelphia University this season, helping the Lady Rams to their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Rodriguez capped the year with a stellar 20-7 record in singles play, ranking third on the team in victories. In doubles action, she added 15 more victories, giving her 35 combined wins on the year -- the fifth-best single-season total in school history.
The Lady Rams finished the year with a 17-7 overall record including a runner-up finish in the 2007 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) team championships. In the NCAA Tournament, the Lady Rams squared off against Bryant (R.I.) University on Friday, May 9th, on the road where the host Bulldogs took a hard-fought 5-3 decision. Rodriguez registered a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory in singles play against Bryant before teaming with sophomore Christina Kettle at #2 doubles where the duo fell, 8-1.
