PHILADELPHIA – After going a perfect 4-0 last week, Philadelphia University freshman Linde Zwaan (Apeldoorn, Netherlands/Gymnasium Apeldoorn) was honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Monday as she received the CACC women's tennis rookie of the week award.
In the Rams' 7-2 victory over CACC opponent Holy Family on Oct. 4, Zwaan teamed up with Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) to defeat the Tigers top duo of Anastasiya Kolodiy and Sophie Beck 8-2, and then went on to knock off Beck in the No. 2 singles match 7-5, 7-5.
She came back to earn both of the Philadelphia points in a 7-2 loss to Roberts Welseyan on Oct. 9. Zwaan earned an 8-2 over Marousia Bosch and Natalia Cardona with teammate Usha Baublitz (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) in the No. 1 doubles match. Playing at No. 1 singles, Zwaan was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Bosch.
Zwaan is currently leading the Rams with eight singles victories—six at No. 2, two at No. 1—this season. In doubles play, Zwaan has a 7-4 record—6-3 with Hamada, 1-1 with Baublitz.
Philadelphia (5-6, 2-3 CACC) visits Gwynedd-Mercy for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
