Head Coach Marty Gilbert

Head Coach Marty Gilbert enters the 2008-09 season as head coach for the Philadelphia University men's and women's tennis teams. This marks his 12th year leading the men, and 11th as the women's head coach.
Gilbert's Lady Rams had a stellar 2008 fall season, finishing the CACC regular season and Tournament Team championship. The Lady Rams were 14-2 overall and an undefeated 7-0 in the CACC. The conference title earned the Lady Rams a ticket into the NCAA Tournament in the spring of 2009. Gilbert's sophomore second singles player Daniela Rodriguez was named CACC Player of the Year after capturing the singles title and freshman third singles Christina Brzowski earned CACC Rookie of the Year honors. Three of his student-athletes were honored as CACC 1st Team All-Conference.
In 2008, Gilbert was appointed the U.S. National Head Coach for the men's and women's tennis teams at the 18th World Maccabiah Games (Jewish Olympics) which will be played in Israel from July 13 - July 23, 2009. It will be Gilbert's third time representing the USA.In 2005 he was the U.S. National Junior Coach and in 1985 the team manager. In addition Gilbert won three bronze medals as a player in the 1989 and 1993 Maccabiah Games in Israel.
In 2007, the Lady Rams went 17-7 (6-1 CACC) and earned a berth into the NCAA Regional. D. Rodriguez was named the 2008 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) East Rookie of the Year, while senior Maddie Smith was named 2007 CACC Player of the Year.
For the men, the spring of 2008 marked the Ram's first-ever NCAA Regional Tounament appearance. Gilbert's team set a new season school record with 15 victories, ending the year at 15-9 overall.
Coach Gilbert has a career winning percentage of .703 with the women's program, a superb 159-67 and the men have compiled a record of 107-104 record.
Prior to coaching at Philadelphia University, Gilbert accumulated 73 wins as the head men's coach at Haverford College from 1973 through 1980. Gilbert then served as the national coach and director of the Israel Tennis Center in Jaffa/Tel Aviv, Israel, from 1987-1996.
As a player himself, Marty Gilbert posted a career record of 33-1 at Temple University, earning All-ECAC honors. He was inducted into the Owls' Hall of Fame in 1986.
At Philadelphia University: As a junior went 11-11 overall...Second-year player registered double-digit combined victories for the second straight season...Posted identical 5-12 marks in singles and doubles action for the Rams, playing primarily at #3 singles and #2 doubles...Had a solid freshman campaign in 2005 for the Rams, finishing with ten combined victories...Posted a 7-10 mark in singles action for Head Coach Marty Gilbert while also picking up three victories in doubles action
