CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Lindsey Carl (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) claimed first place in the high jump for the second straight week to the lead the Philadelphia University women's track team in day two of the Danny Curran Invitational, hosted by Widener University, on Saturday.
Carl opened the event needing two attempts to clear the opening height of 1.33 meters, but successful on her first try at 1.38 meters. After getting over the bar at 1.43 meters on attempt two, Carl's second try at 1.48 meters was successful to give her the win.
She also led the Rams in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 21st place with a time of 1 minute, 08.92 seconds. Carl edged out teammate Victoria Hochuli (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Oceanside) for the position as Hochuli's race time was 1:08.97. Hochuli was credited with 22nd place.
Hochuli went on to have strong showing in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. In the 400 hurdles, Hochuli recorded the 11th-place time of 1:15.04. She set a personal best in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.34 to take 12th.
Victoria Frisbie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led a solid Philadelphia contingent in the 1,500-meter run with the 10th-place time of 5:08.08, a season best. Stephanie Watson (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) finished just .53 behind Frisbie to take the 11th spot with a 5:08.61. Maddie Conway (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) had the 18th-best time of 5:18.94, while Erin Raup (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) came in 20th after crossing the line in 5:20.68. Gypsy Blue Cooper (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) came in 34th with a time of 5:41.71. Watson, Conway, Raup, and Cooper all set personal bests
The quartet of Watson, Raup, Conway, and Cooper all came back later in the day to compete in the 800-meter run. Watson paced the Rams in the event as she completed the distance in a personal-best time of 2:29.25 to claim 14th. Raup was 17th overall with a time of 2:31.11. Conway and Cooper finished in 26th and 27th, respectively. Conway posted a time of 2:40.48 and Cooper set a mark of 2:46.64.
Devin Cuevas rounded out the day for Philadelphia competing in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Cuevas was 22th in the 100 with a time of 14.30 and had the 33rd-place time of 29.01 in the 200.
Philadelphia heads to West Chester University to compete in the West Chester Invitational the weekend of April 8-9.
