WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's track team participated in the West Chester University Invitational on Sunday.
Lindsey Carl (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) carried the day for the Rams by posting a height on 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4.25 inches) to win the high jump for the third consecutive week. Carl passed on the opening heights of 1.33 and 1.38 meters. Then, she went out and needed only one attempt to clear 1.43, 1.48, 1.53, and 1.58 meters. After missing on her first attempt on 1.63 meters, Carl got over the bar on her second try to earn the victory.
Carl also competed in the long jump and discus for the first time this season. She took 10th in the long jump with a distance of 4.36 meters (14' 3.75"), which came on her first attempt, and 13th in the discus with a mark of 26.04 meters (85' 5").
Gypsy Blue Cooper (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) made her first collegiate appearance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and posted the third-place time of 13 minutes, 37.00 seconds.
In the 5,000-meter run, Stephanie Watson (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) posted a personal-best time of 19:56.34 to take fifth place overall. Emilie Barton (Sterling, Ill./Newman Central Catholic) finished in sixth place with a time of 20:13.75.
Maddie Conway (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) set a personal best in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:38.09. She was 17th in Sunday's race. Conway also participated in the 1,500-meter run and came in 14th with a time of 5:30.03.
Maria Santangelo (Abington, Pa./AIM Academy) joined Conway in the 1,500 and recorded the 19th-place time of 6:01.47. It was Santangelo's first time running the event.
Philadelphia's next action is the Widener Invitational on Saturday, April 23 at Widener University.
