NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A strong debut at the West Chester University Ram Fest allowed Philadelphia University freshman middle hitter Amber Johnson (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) to take home the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball rookie of the week award Tuesday.
In her first four matches in a Ram uniform, Johnson racked up 39 kills, while posting a team-best .342 attack percentage, and 10 total blocks (two solo, eight assists) to help Philadelphia go 2-2 during the season's opening weekend. She was second on the team in kills and total blocks.
Johnson started the season with 13 kills, four digs, and two solo blocks in a 3-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. In the Rams' four-set triumph against Millersville, Johnson recorded 11 kills, a .421 attack percentage, and four block assists. On Sept. 3, Johnson had nine kills during a 3-1 loss to Daemen, and six kills and three block assists in a three-set loss to host West Chester.
Philadelphia (2-2) travels to Lincoln (Pa.) University for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
