Volleyball Sweeps Bloomfield in the CACC Quarterfinals, Advances to Semifinals

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (25-6, CACC South No. 1 Seed) turned in a three-set sweep of the Bloomfield Bears (8-21, CACC North No. 4 Seed) in the CACC Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening from the Gallagher Center by a 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 final. The victory advances the Rams to a CACC Semifinal matchup on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Wilmington-hosted CACC Tournament in Delaware.

Jefferson has now won its last 14 matches including the last nine as sweeps. The Rams haven't dropped a set since Oct. 17.

Senior All-CACC First Team selection Corinne Justus led the Rams with a .524 hitting percentage behind 12 kills on 21 total attacks with just one error on Tuesday.

Sophomore Mariah Cadzow also notched 12 kills with a .357 hitting percentage.

Junior All-CACC First Team honoree Courtney Wensel recorded nine kills and 14 kills. Freshman Caitlin Crespo also grabbed 14 digs in the victory.

Junior All-CACC Second Team selection Alexandra Harrington had 38 assists in the win to bring her assist per set average to a conference best 9.89 on the year.

The Rams hit .235 in the first set, .233 in the second set and .351 in the third and final set to secure the conference postseason win.

The Bears were within one of the Rams in the first set at 16-15 before a five-point stretch extended Jefferson's lead to 21-15 before winning 25-17.

Bloomfield jumped out to an early lead before Jefferson tied up the second set at 11-11. From there, the Rams never relinquished the lead, 25-19.

The Rams came out firing in the final set. With an 11-6 advantage, Jefferson recorded the next eight points to go up 19-6 before closing it out 25-10.

Jefferson Volleyball now travels to New Castle, Del., the site of the Wilmington University-hosted 2017 CACC Semifinals and Finals. The Rams play on Saturday, Nov. 18 against Georgian Court after the Lions defeated Post, 20-25, 26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 15-13 in a five-set quarterfinals match.
