COATESVILLE, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's cross country team placed all five of its scoring runners inside the top-10 to take first place at the Bryn Athyn Cross Country Invitational on a rainy Friday afternoon at Cheslen Preserve.
Thanks to the strong finishes, the Rams had the winning team score of 27, 22 points ahead of second place Albright. Host Bryn Athyn was in third with 58 points, while Pennsylvania College of Technology was a distant fourth with 109 points.
Nicole Stough (York, Pa./West York) edged out Naomi Scharf (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) for Philadelphia's top runner as she was 0.4 seconds faster than Scharf with a 6-kilometer time of 25 minutes, 35.4 seconds to take home third overall. Scharf had to settle for fourth with a 25:35.8.
Maria Santangelo (Abington, Pa./AIM Academy) was Friday's fifth-place finisher, completing the course in 26:21.7, 2.2 seconds in front of teammate Gypsy Blue Cooper (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), who finished in sixth with a 26:23.9.
The Rams' final scoring runner was Dyani Hairston (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove). Hairston had a time of 27:46.9 to finish in ninth overall.
Samiya Hale (Fredericksburg, Va./North Stafford) was 11th with a time of 28:34.4, while Victoria Carchietta had the 13th place time of 29:27.8. Victoria Hochuli (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Oceanside) completed Philadelphia's lineup with a time of 29:27.8 to come home 15th.
Albright's Kellsey Dunn posted the event-winning time of 24:29.3.
Philadelphia returns to action in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Saturday, Oct. 1.
